About Thambilli

What does "Thambilli" mean?

Thambilli takes its name from two places at once. The first is thambili — the bright orange king coconut you're handed the moment you arrive in Sri Lanka, always with a straw, always as a welcome. The second is Thambapanni, the island's own ancient name — older than "Ceylon," older than most maps, the name Sri Lanka called itself long before anyone else got to decide what to call it.

Put them together and you get the story we're actually trying to tell: Thambapanni In a Little List — every corner of this island worth knowing, gathered into one trusted place. Not a directory. Not a marketplace. A list, handed to you the way a friend who actually lives here would hand you one — because that's exactly who's behind it.
